MethMinder Supporters
Since its inception, MethMinder has spoken or communicated with many organisations that are involved in the provision of advice and services to their clients. The business sectors we have engaged with include:
- Real Estate & Property Management
- Hotel Industry
- Motel Industry
- Holiday Accommodation Industry
- Anti meth Industry
- Local and Central Government Agencies
There are a growing number of organisations that are either communicating with their clients directly or encouraging their individual business owners/members and employees to communicate with their clients regarding this risk. They recognise the value to themselves and their clients of being proactive. By sector these include:
Real Estate & Property Management
With 75% of meth labs being found in rental properties (2009 figures) the real estate industry and its clients are heavily exposed to meth lab risk. Real estate and property management firms are the primary source of information regarding market conditions for most home buyers/investors.
Goodwin Property Management (GPM) – Central/West Auckland based property management group. GPM offer subsidised rates to their clients for obtaining MethMinder – Contact Brent Sullivan
Real Estate Rentals (RER) – Papakura based property management group. RER offer subsidised rates to their clients for obtaining MethMinder – Contact Lorraine Clendon
All Property Management (APM) – North Shore oriented property management group. APM offer subsidised rates to their clients for obtaining MethMinder – Contact Ross Thomas
Ray White – The size and structure of the Ray White Group means they are encouraging a structured regional roll out of communications among their business owners. This started with Auckland North in 2011. The decision to advise clients is made by the individual business owners. Communication exercises have been commenced by:
- Ray White Te Atatu – Central West Auckland – Contact Joe Voordouw
- Ray White Epsom – Central Auckland – Contact MAry Taylor of Pat Taylor Realty
- Ray White Kumeu – Outer West Auckland – Contact Andrew Widdup
- Ray White Warkworth – Rodney District – Contact Ken Bogue
- Some offices are choosing to subsidise MethMinder for their clients
First National Real Estate – In August/September 2011 a relationship was established with First National. The Head Office is encouraging owners to raise the issue with their clients and MethMinder expects the relationship with Group businesses to evolve over time.
Hotel Industry
Hotels are regularly used by meth cooks. This exposes all hotel guests to risk. MethMinder continues to work at establishing collaborative relationships with industry groups in this sector.
Motel Industry
Motels are regularly used by meth cooks. This exposes all motel guests to risk. MethMinder is working (September 2011) to establish formal relationships with the Motel Association of New Zealand (MANZ).
Holiday Accommodation
Approaches were made to the holiday accommodation industry in February 2011. As at September 2011, MethMinder is following up with bookabach to determine whether or not it will be possible to communicate directly with bookabach clients.
Anti meth Industry
MethMinder is an active member of the anti meth industry – those organisations which provide services to help people minimise the impact and harm cause by methamphetamine. Supporters include:
Christina Stroud - a Business and Personal Success Coach who offers a highly effective (+90%) and highly efficient (21 Days) meth treatment programme
Contaminated Site Solutions – Contact Victor Boyd – Victor and his team offer a specialist decontamination service for properties that have been used as meth labs
Forensic and Industrial Science – Contact Dr. Nick Powell – Nick and his team offer specialist testing services for victims of meth lab crime
Local and Central Government Agencies
MethMinder has made representations at all levels of Government and to most of the agencies engaged in the Government’s ‘War on P’. The nature of Government is that it does not endorse or openly support commercial undertakings. Having said that, the broad response we have received has been positive.
MethMinder is represented on the newly inaugurated (August 2011) Auckland Regional Meth Working Group (ARMWG) set up by Auckland City Council. The purpose of this Vision of this Group is to see Auckland become a City free from the influence and harm of methamphetamine.
The members of ARMWG are drawn from all sectors of the community. Our purpose is to build a collective and cohesive approach to methamphetamine harm that motivates positive and sustained change in Auckland communities.
We see MethMinder’s invitation to be involved in this Group as recognition of the positive contribution we are making.
